Mexico City-Toluca Train to Begin Full Operations in January 2026

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the 'El Insurgente' interurban train will be fully operational by the end of January 2026, after more than 11 years of construction. The project aims to reduce travel time between Toluca and Mexico City to 40 minutes, significantly improving connectivity and quality of life in the metropolitan area.

President of Mexico City Shin Yeibm reported on the full launch of the functional integration of the "El Insurgente" (Mexico-Tulsa) metro line by 2026. The project connects two cities, the Mexico City Metro with the El Edos Hidalgo station, covering 40 minutes, which significantly reduces travel time to two hours with half an hour.

The project, which began in 2014, was initially planned as an active station in the period of the ex-president Enrique Pena Nieto (2012–2018). In September 2023, the ex-president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador officially launched the transfer of traffic, connecting Miguel with the lively rayon Santa-Fe. For the past year, four stations have been opened: Zinacantepet, Tuluka Center, Metepek and Lerma. By 2026, the launch of the Santa-Fe station is planned, as well as the Cutter and Observatory in the station.

According to Shin Yeibm, it was initially planned not to include the Vasco de Cutter station, but subsequently it was added to the list of stations for the development of the Albert Obregon railway line. "This will allow us to connect all the columns, and then communicate with the linear cableway (transpont tramway)," the president noted. Shin Yeibm also noted the importance of the station Observatory: "This is a very important terminal station for the entire history of Mexico, which connects different transport — subway, metro, suburban and regional transport".

An important addition to the project is the connection with the metro Miguel. On November 16, 2023, the first line of the metro, which runs from the station Observatory to the Juanakatlana, began to work. The reconstruction of the first line of the metro, which passes through the named points of Pantitlan and Iberala La Katolika, will last longer.

Shin Yeibm, who was present with the great pride of the station Clara Bugrada and the governor of the state El Edos Hisen Delphinio Gomez, noted the importance of updating the transport infrastructure for the development of the station and the region.
